Heart of God East Africa is dedicated to partnering with local indigenous leaders of the communities in which we serve. This unique style not only helps us determine what we will do, it also determines what we will not do. It’s our view that each village ministry, no matter what the title, should be run by local leaders, not the missionary or agency. – Denise Matthews
Smile Africa
Heart of God East Africa partners with Smile Africa Ministries in Tororo, Uganda.
Smile Africa was founded by Pastor Ruth Kahawa. Her heart for the less fortunate of Uganda has allowed God to use her gifts and talents in an amazing way! Smile Africa hosts over 450 Karamojong orphans each day. The children come from miles away, carrying siblings on their backs. They are assured spiritual growth, agape love, a basic education, porridge, and lunch each day. For most, this is the only meal they receive for the day.
Ruth also mentors over 800 widows within the community, along with a boys at risk teen program. To say that she is nothing short of a miracle for this community, is an understatement.
Fruit Program
We have a fruit program that allows the children to have added vitamins to their daily rice supplement. For pennies a day, each child can get a piece of added fruit during the week. There is a remarkable difference in the health of the children, just by adding fruit each week. If you would like to help support this effort please click here.
Adolescent Teen Program
The children are the future of Uganda. Many have been left as caregivers of the family due to AIDS/HIV of parents at very young ages. There are at present, about thirteen adolescent girls that are now receiving support for their education, medical and personal needs. Some were rescued from abusive families, others a life on the street. As Ruth continues to minister to the community, more children come to her for guidance. The first thing they receive is a spiritual foundation on which to grow. They are then placed in the program for educational help. Some of the original girls to enter the program were at fourth grade level, at about 13 years of age. Thanks to God, they are all doing well and are now at their current grade level.
